The Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) Senior Director Leadership Team worked together to develop the following Mission, Vision, and Values for our organization.
These principles were formally adopted in September 2016.
Everything we do is inspired by our enduring mission:
We discover, implement, and support secure, mission-critical health information technology and services that are:
- Helpful and protect our patients and their families
- Relied on by care providers
- Key to the success of researchers
- Valued by educators and learners
- A source of pride for all staff of the academic medical center
Our Vision 2022
How We Work — With purpose
Together we work together as a single organization, successfully navigating the challenges of interdependency. How we work is reflective of our values and is always focused on making life better for those in Michigan and beyond. Our daily work is driven by strategy and reflects the priorities of Michigan Medicine. We empower and support each other and make each other better by sharing ideas and best practices.
Service — Seamless and efficient
Our customers’ experience is seamless and transcends organizational complexities. We always deliver service with empathy, and wherever possible we empower users by providing self-help resources.
Enable Alliances — Across Michigan
We will enable Michigan Medicine’s expanding efforts to affiliate more deeply with partners across the state of Michigan through enhanced technologies, data sharing, and the ability to discover and respond to specific and integrated needs for providers, provider organizations, and other groups that define our networks of care.
Relationships — Deep and purposeful
We are purposeful, careful, and explicit about the deep, sustainable relationships we build with colleagues and customers. As a result, organization lines are blurred. Through these relationships, we are better able to anticipate their needs and deliver ideal solutions.
Personal Growth & Opportunity — Enable it and take charge
As a single organization supporting all three Michigan Medicine missions, we are able to provide a wealth of opportunities for people at every level of our organization. We all have both an opportunity and a responsibility to help create the kind of organization in which we’d like to belong. Similarly, we have an opportunity and responsibility to grow and prosper within the organization as individuals. We strive to make ourselves better and more effective by seeking opportunities to increase our technical excellence and mission-focused knowledge.
Institutional Collaboration — The whole is greater than the sum of its parts
We embrace the federation of IT across Michigan Medicine and the University of Michigan, and work collaboratively in order to strengthen our core services and efficiently support the specialized needs of departments and centers.
Solutions — Novel, secure, reliable, and initiative
We lead Michigan Medicine in applying information and technology in novel ways to deliver intuitive solutions that empower our customers and enable them to make new discoveries that improve the lives of others. Our solutions are made better because of our access to a broad range of technologies and expertise across a single organization.
We are guided by shared values that we will live by as an organization and individuals:
Excellence — in technology and services and their application to the academic medical center missions
Dedication — to the missions of the academic medical center
Respect — for our colleagues, faculty, learners, staff, research subjects, and patients and their families
Diversity — creates a safe, inclusive environment and stronger team
Creativity — in how we solve problems and provide solutions
