ALERT! Zebra printer power supply replacement

09/09/2019

Please be advised that some Zebra printers may be equipped with faulty power supplies which may be a fire hazard.  HITS support teams have been mobilized for several days to identify and replace these faulty power supplies.

If you encounter a printer WITH a green "dot" sticker attached:

This printer has been checked by HITS and has been validated to have a safe power supply. It is okay to use this printer and leave it online when unattended.

If you encounter a printer WITHOUT a green "dot" sticker attached and there is a flyer from HITS present:

This printer has been checked by HITS and has a power supply that is at-risk for failure. These devices should remain unplugged when not in use. If the printer is required for the delivery of patient care, you may plug it in, turn on the power switch, and use as needed. However, this printer MUST be removed from power when not in use. The fire marshal has mandated that these devices cannot be plugged in when unattended. Please be sure not to remove this flyer.

If you encounter a printer WITHOUT a green "dot" sticker attached and there is no flyer from HITS present:

This device has not yet been checked by HITS to ensure that it has a safe power supply. If you are able to reach the power supply, please validate that it is made by Hitek (image above). IF NOT:

  • UNPLUG it from the WALL when unattended (such as labs, clinics, etc. that are closed during off-shifts or weekends).
  • Remove all combustible material that is located near the Zebra printer (including under the counter).
  • Post the HITS flyer near the Zebra printer.
  • Remain in attendance when using the printer and unplug from the outlet when unattended.

If you are unable to identify the power supply or are unsure of which action to take, please treat it as potentially unsafe and keep it unplugged unless actively in use or attended by staff.
