Michigan Medicine Human Resources, Organizational Learning, and HITS are partnering with Cornerstone to establish a comprehensive Talent Management platform to serve all of Michigan Medicine, including faculty, staff, and learners from U-M Health, the Medical School, and Shared Services.

Cornerstone Project FAQ

What is Talent Management?

Talent Management refers to a coordinated set of activities that nurture employees to reach their full potential – including onboarding and orientation, learning, personal skills and growth, professional development, performance management, succession planning, and more.

MLearning to be replaced – will become Cornerstone Learning

Phase 1 of the Cornerstone Talent Management project focuses on replacing the technology Michigan Medicine uses to support training activities, including the familiar “mandatories” all faculty and staff are required to complete regularly.

The new learning management system will offer many improvements, including:

  • A more modern, user-friendly interface designed to make it easier for managers to assign and track learning among members of their teams, and for individual learners to see and manage their progress.
  • Greater reliability and flexibility – the cloud-based system can regularly receive upgrades and enhancements. Content can also be accessed from anywhere, anytime, using virtually any device or browser.
  • Integrates additional types of learning resources (such as LinkedIn Learning) into a single, convenient hub – making it easier for managers and staff to develop customized learning plans, and providing everyone with easier access to a wider variety of professional and personal growth opportunities.

Cornerstone Learning: Key Features and Benefits

Cornerstone Learning offers many new features that will make it easier than ever for both individuals and their managers to find and access learning resources, and track progress toward their goals!

Learner Home is a convenient hub that enables users to find relevant resources, search and filter for specific training, and see and take action on training that needs to be completed.

Every Cornerstone Learning user will have a personalized transcript to help them to manage their training progress. The transcript displays the status of each activity, indicating if training is pending, approved, or completed. Depending on the status, users can register, launch, and perform a variety of other training functions directly from the transcript.

Learning Search

With advanced Search and Filter options, learners can easily search across titles, descriptions, and keywords.

Reporting Dashboards

This enables individual learners to configure their personal dashboard so that they can quickly view the information that is most important to them.

It also provides managers with a quick, graphical view of information needed for investigative, compliance, and other process-improvement purposes.

Curricula comprise multiple learning activities that are part of a single program, and can include tests, external courses, online learning, instructor-led training, postings, evaluations and more – to allow for a blended learning experience. Additional Talent Management Capabilities Coming Soon

While work is underway to bring Cornerstone Learning to life this fall, the project team is also engaging with Michigan Medicine leaders, stakeholders, and customers to plan and develop additional phases of the project – including Cornerstone Performance Management, Cornerstone Careers, and more.

As each new module is added, the plan is to develop and maintain a unified, comprehensive set of content and tools that’s capable of supporting the incredibly diverse (and often unique) needs of Michigan Medicine’s more than 30,000 faculty, staff, and students.

Note: To accommodate this change, MLearning will experience a Production Change Freeze and a brief System Blackout
