The University of Michigan is requiring all community members to change their UMICH (Level-1) password by the end of the day on Tuesday, September 12. NOTE: Michigan Medicine (Level-2) passwords do not need to be changed.

A reminder that your UMICH (Level-1) password provides access to Wolverine Access, Duo, Canvas, Drupal, and U-M Google. Michigan Medicine (Level-2) passwords are used for MiChart, Outlook, SharePoint, and to log into your Michigan Medicine computer.

The fastest and easiest way to change your UMICH (Level-1) password is through the campus self-service password change page. When choosing a new password, do not reuse any password you have used in the past, at U-M or elsewhere. Refer to the guidelines for Choosing and Changing a Secure UMICH (Level-1) Password.

If the Sept. 12 deadline is missed, a more intricate account-recovery process will be necessary to regain access. Assistance for this process is provided on the Information and Technology Services website.

Everyone with a UMICH (Level-1) account needs to change their password, including all Michigan Medicine faculty, staff, and students as well as alumni, retirees, and sponsored accounts.

Criminals use malicious email and websites to try to trick you into revealing your password or other sensitive information or to infect your computer with malware. Learn how to recognize phishing and other malicious email on the Safe Computing website.

Do not share your password with anyone — not even trusted family members or IT support staff. If you must write down your password to help remember it, keep it in a safe, secure place, and do not leave it where others could see it.
