MLearning Retirement/Replacement Rescheduled for Early November


The planned retirement and replacement of Michigan Medicine’s MLearning online training resource – which had been planned for this July – has been rescheduled for early November.

Since late last year, representatives from Michigan Medicine Human Resources, Organizational Learning, and Health Information Technology & Services (HITS), have been working together to develop and launch Cornerstone Learning, in conjunction with retiring the existing MLearning system. 

However, as the project team continued making steady progress, they realized some additional time would be needed to achieve the ambitious goals they had set for the transition.

“Everyone is very excited about the many substantial benefits the new system will bring to the Michigan Medicine community, and we’re really looking forward to launching it as soon as possible,” said Laurel Barnes, manager of the HITS Learning Management Team.

“That said, we realized that doing everything required to ensure a smooth and successful launch – including incorporating valuable feedback from our partners, conducting additional rounds of quality testing, and making improvements needed to ensure the best possible customer experience – would take just a bit more time. That’s why we decided to move our planned go-live date to early November.”

Cornerstone Learning part of broader talent management platform effort

When launched this November, Cornerstone Learning will be just the first phase of a new online talent management platform that will serve all of Michigan Medicine – including more than 30,000 faculty, staff and learners from U-M Health, the medical school and shared services units.

Cornerstone Learning will bring many improvements, including:

  • A more modern, user-friendly interface that makes it easier for individuals to search for relevant learning content and to see and manage their progress toward goals, and for managers to assign and track learning among members of their teams.
  • Greater reliability and flexibility – the cloud-based system can regularly receive updates and enhancements. Content will also be available from anywhere, anytime, using virtually any browser on any device.
  • Integrates additional types of learning resources (including LinkedIn Learning) into a single, convenient hub – making it easier for managers and staff to develop customized learning plans, and providing everyone with easier access to a wider variety of professional and personal growth opportunities.
