Requested Research Applications

BioRender

About: BioRender is a web application that can be used to create scientific figures, diagrams, and illustrations from a scientifically accurate image library.

Status: ITS is currently seeking funding for an enterprise license and if funding is approved, HITS will coordinate with them to determine how to extend this license to the medical school. We do not have an estimated timeline at this point. Given the uncertainty, departments and/or research labs should plan for this expense if they need to use BioRender.

Imaris

About: Imaris is Bitplane's core product which provides functionality for the visualization, segmentation and interpretation of 3D and 4D microscopy datasets.

Status: We are aware of the need for this application, however we have only received a small number of requests for it. We will continue to monitor/track the interest in this application, but will not be pursuing an enterprise license at this time.

Mendeley

About: Mendeley is a citation add-in used to insert reference and bibliography information into Word documents.
Status: HITS received several requests to enable this reference application for M365. If you would like to see this add-in enabled, please upvote it in the Ideas Portal.

NVivo

About: NVivo is an easy-to-use, collaborative qualitative analysis software that allows researchers to import, organize, explore, connect and collaborate on their data to reveal more significant insights from their qualitative data faster.

Status: September 2023 - HITS is in the process of bringing NVivo into our research applications portfolio and are targeting early 2024 for release.

PaperPile

About: Paperpile is a web-based commercial reference management software, with special emphasis on integration with Google Docs and Google Scholar

Status: A thorough analysis determined the individual cost for this application is more economical for Michigan Medicine than obtaining an enterprise license. At the time of analysis, individual costs were $2.99 per month, and usage data indicates about 240 people are paying for licenses. The costs for the enterprise license are not advantageous based on the usage data.

Quartzy

About: Quartzy is an online lab management platform and scientific research supply marketplace.
