06/08/2020

This Saturday, June 13, is the next upgrade for MiChart, the electronic health system for Michigan Medicine. The June upgrade, rescheduled from April, is the first planned upgrade for 2020 with a goal to reduce downtime duration and impact to the organization

The upgrade will include updates, system maintenance, and new features to the MiChart application.  The newest upgrade will enable some changes and enhancements, including:

●   Improved order search features to boost frequent searches and account for typos

●   A new layout in the inpatient Care Plan to review and manage the plan, document progress and resolve the plan, and write the care plan note

●   Increased operation of the LDA Avatar assessment and display

●   LOS (level of service) activity moves to the Visit Taskbar from the Wrap Up tab to be easily available to enter and display at any time during the visit

MiChart Systemdowntime for the upgrade will be from 2 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 13. Guidelines and procedures to follow during this time may be found on the Upgrade page of the MiChart website.

All remote MiChart users on Core Image machines should plan to have their machines online and connected to the VPN during the week leading up to the downtime and then restart their VPN connection at the end of the workday on Friday, June 12 to ensure they receive updates to any MiChart desktop shortcuts during the downtime. Please refer to the HITS Tech Guide To Working Remotely for detailed guidance.

The MiChart system will be locked down Tuesday, June 9, at 5 p.m. For more information on any limitations resulting from the lockdown, see the tip sheet: Workflow Limitations: Transparent Upgrade Lockdown.

Training materials are available for review via MLearning for Inpatient Nursing, Allied Health, and Revenue Cycle; and on theMiChart Upgrade Training Resources website for all roles.  The content is organized by role and contains slides of relevant changes, with links to tip sheets and/or videos where applicable.  All clinicians and MiChart users are encouraged to review the content to ensure a seamless upgrade and go-live.
